Hello Richard,

Just dropping a note, I will be on Bare Mountain today calling CQ for summits on the air around 16:00, going for another activation. I will be calling on these frequencies 146.520-fm, 446.000-fm, 52.525-fm and a few more. I will be posting APRS so any one can track me to see what’s going on, track KB1JFQ-7. Looking to make at least four contact’s today. 73 Chuck

I recently took my Amateur General License exam at Amherst Machine Co. under the supervision of a group of very professional and extremely accommodating VE’s.
Two months of intense studying paid off, but the positive attitudes and accepting nature of the folks administrating the exam set the stage for a pleasant atmosphere.
Thanks Richard and crew for your support.
Regards,
John Bergquist KB1TTX

Richard, Thanks for the QSO and all your help on trying to get more contacts for me while I was on Mt.Norwottock. I was able to make my four contacts and activate the mountain for my one point! as I promised I am posting some links for Summits On The Air and encourage all Ham’s to get involved, Summits on the Air is a program that encourages radio amateurs who enjoy hill walking and the great outdoors to take their radios with them and operate from the mountain tops. An award scheme recognizes those who activate the summits and also those that make QSOs with the activators. The program can be operated anywhere in the world. Please keep in mind you don’t have to be mountain climber to participate, you can enjoy SOTA from your QTH or shack as well. Keep your rigs on you can most always hear me calling CQ Summits On The Air on 146.52 and always tracking on APRS.FI with the current mountain we are on. Thanks again, Chuck KB1JFQ 73

I am originally from Pittsfield MA and 13yrs ago moved here to the Washington DC area, age 58, currently railfaning and working with Amateur Radio (6mtr repeater 53.270). I find your website very well done and informative. BTW the mystery picture @ the Hoosac east portal is of a small cavern, looking left next to the tracks by the east portal. It contains a tank and some old equipment possibly for pumping water for steam engines? Been there many times including a trek through the tunnel. I will send you some pictures of CSX iron from this area if you like, please see my hangout: Barnesville MD on Google Maps. Would love to talk sometime dwojtkowski@aol.com
